TECHNOLOGICAL IMPLEMENTATIONS AND ACHIEVEMENTS IN TECHNICAL RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT
In 2006, PSE Operator started cooperation with Polish research establishments. As at the end of 2008, PSE Operator had 13 support agreements with Polish R&D units.
Under the support agreements, 15 R&D projects were completed for the Operator with a value of over PLN 3 million. In 2008, another 11 agreements were concluded for research work worth PLN 4.6 million.
The R&D work assignments completed and technological projects implemented last year included the following:
- Preparation and cataloguing (in database application form) of the technical requirements for wind farms imposed by selected European system operators (Poland, Germany, Spain, Denmark, Netherlands),
- Development of two methods for testing the directionality of distance and earth-fault protection devices at a minimum load current,
- Development of a method for taking into account the impact of wind generation on the power system reliability, and the TRELLS&WIND-PW software tool for the calculation and analysis of reliability of the Polish Power System,
- Development and implementation of a system for the dynamic rating of a transmission line equipped with CAT-1 measurement devices. The system can be deployed to monitor lines especially prone to overloading in normal operation (e.g. in the case of new wind farms) or lines of strategic significance in emergency situations,
- Research into long-term acoustic phenomena in the vicinity of 400 kV power lines under variable weather conditions,
- Research into the feasibility of using fuel power cells for auxiliary power supply to a LV substation,
- Development and implementation of a system of tools assisting the processing of grid data for calculation models used for the purposes of longterm planning of PSE Operator’s transmission business development,
- Development of a general concept of a system for remote monitoring of the parameters of electricity quality at transmission grid nodes,
- Preparation of a feasibility study for the implementation of a communication protocol based on the IEC 61 850 standard at PSE Operator’s upgraded substations and the improvement of the quality of data transmitted to SCADA devices and systems.
